Wow! Summer is almost over and hopefully some cooler temps and maybe some rain will grace our state with the onset of fall and relieve us of the smoke filled skies. Please take extra care when going out painting in the extreme dry conditions!

Members Exhibit – Initial Point Gallery: For those members who submitted entries to the show, thank you! You should have gotten an email from me with the details of delivery time and date and required hanging hardware, etc. Remember please, to bring your printed entry form filled out with your paintings info and your $5 entry fee. Refer to that email about bringing a second painting as well. For all members and friends: please join us on October 3rd, 4:30-7 for the reception at the gallery in Meridian City Hall, 3rd floor. There are two awards in this show – one is an Audience Choice Award to be voted on during the opening reception and the other is The Mayors Choice Award!

Redfish Lake Paint Out – This has been happening this week. There were some great plans being made for this by Mark Davis and other volunteers! Hope lots of painting happened and sales made!

Annual Membership Meeting – Save the date and mark your calendars for the annual meeting on Saturday October 21. This will be a late afternoon/evening meeting I believe with time and location to be determined. Check Facebook and website for this info. This is an important event for the membership – it is your opportunity to bring ideas for events and activities that you want to have in 2018 and your opportunity to volunteer for events and activities. Most important, it is a great time to join your fellow members and renew old friendships and gain new ones.
Aaron Johnson Workshop – Aaron is a great painter and art educator from the Moscow, ID area who is a professor of art and frequents plein air events in the west. Plein Air magazine recently wrote an article about Aaron and his plein air work in gouche and oil. I have known Aaron for several years, working on a committee for some art events in Moscow as well as participating in plein air events in the west. He is a great individual and will teach an informative and well planned workshop. This will be a plein air workshop October 20-21 and the fee is $80! Bargain! Details to follow…watch Facebook and the website. Don’t miss this opportunity!!

Trailing of the Sheep – Once again the Trailing of the Sheep plein air event will happen October 5-8 in Wood River Valley. Karen Jacobsen is chairing that event. A great opportunity to paint some fall color and lots of sheep!

Artist Opportunities – The fall is a time when lots of call to artists are published for benefit auctions at museums as well as some plein air events have deadlines in the fall for jurying into their competitions. Museums like the Yellowstone Art Museum, Missoula Art Museum, Cody Art Museum, as examples all have calls out now or soon. Google specific venues for their individual calls. And grab a copy of Plein Air magazine to see where the plein air events (those who advertise with them) are. The January issue usually has an extensive list of events by state.
Several PAPI members teach workshops and have ongoing classes in their studios and at events. Check their websites and posts on Facebook for more info. I know that Kevin McCain has drawing classes scheduled for the fall. I’m doing pastel workshops in UT, OR and Meridian, ID this fall (Meridian class is filled October 28-29). Meg Glasgow is offering classes and workshops at her Finer Frames Gallery as well. Check your local areas for classes near you!
BOSCO is coming up in October 13-15. It’s a fun thing to get out and visit artists’ studios who are open for that weekend in the greater Boise area.
Consider opening an Instagram and/or Pinterest account in the social media arena. It is a great way to show your work and to follow other artist’s work. These sites can be more focused to specific interests.  And finally, take the time to stop by Finer Frames and see Tricia May’s exhibit. It is a collection of superb work.

Members!  If you want something published in the newsletter please contact me! The next newsletter will be November. Send your requests around the middle of October to! If you are offering a class, hosting an event, etc., please let us know! Encourage members to sign up for this newsletter and to join the PAPI Facebook page and MeetUp for your area. It’s how you learn about events and what’s happening!

Enjoy the fall and paint often!
