Sherri Carter lives in Eagle, Idaho. She graduated from the Academy of Art College in San Francisco with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and spent many years working as a graphic designer before embarking on a career in fine art. It was through fellow painters and mentors that she discovered her natural style was reminiscent of early tonalist painters. She later learned more about tonalism by studying the works of George Inness, JH Twachman, James Whistler and Russell Chatham.
Sherri has won several awards including “Best Animal/Wildlife Painting” at the Idaho Paints Idaho art show and competition; “Best of Show” at Art in the Park in Boise; and a “Merit Award” at the Boise Plein Air Competition in 2013. Sherri believes in giving back to the community through her work and has been donating her original works for auction at local benefits since 2005.
My goal is to create an emotional response with my “tonal landscapes”. The work implies recognizable places as I depart from simply copying nature to “suggested realism.” My sophisticated color palette and luminous glazes add to the peaceful and dreamy effect my work has on its viewers. I begin each painting session with the hope of conveying the emotion I feel from nature through a visual collaboration of mind and spirit.
