Joyce DeFord

Joyce DeFord_SELF_1000x1256Joyce DeFord’s artwork has many roots. Since she can first remember, she has always wanted to be an artist. She considers herself mostly self-taught.

A large collection of art books have been her biggest influences. One influence has been the work of Jeanne Dobie. Her book helped DeFord to learn how to control water color and to make “the water color work for me instead of against me.”

A key technique to her compositions has been to base the composition on a transparent under-painting then adding color to enhance form and shadow. DeFord finds art a challenge that never changes. Each painting is a new experience.
